III. Catalog Description This fitness based class uses a combination of postures inspired by ballet as well as other disciplines such as Yoga and Pilates. Students use the barre as a prop to assist with balance while doing exercises that focus on isometric strength training combined with high repetitions of small range-of-motion movements. The use of light weights and mat/core work will be incorporated into the course. This course may be repeated once for credit.

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Students will apply the basic disciplines of ballet incorporated with fitness based exercise I e light weights/ high reps, mat work, isometric muscle work, and balance practices associated with Yoga and Pilates
  • Students will demonstrate appropriate safety practices
  • Students will improve/maintain their level of fitness throughout the semester
