EDUC-3200 Teaching Exceptional Children

This course is designed to increase knowledge and awareness of persons identified as exceptional. The student will study special education in relation to the characteristics and needs of individuals with exceptionalities with the intent that the student gains greater appreciation for what it is like to have a disability. Although this is not a methods class, the student will be better prepared for teaching exceptional students by learning about specialized approaches, current special education laws, controversial topics, resource agencies, technology, and possible sources of litigation, while developing an understanding of how to improve the educational experience for students with disabilities in general education classrooms. Additionally, participants will demonstrate proficiency of Standard 5--Diverse Reading and Writing Profiles --of the Idaho Comprehensive Literacy Standards. Other InTASC standards emphasized include Standards 1--Learner Development, 2--Learning Differences, and 4--Content Knowledge. Formerly EDU-442.
