CABW 110 Basic Understanding of Wood Types*
Students will be taught basic concepts of woodworking, styles of cabinetry kinds of building materials, hardware etc. Students will learn about trees and shrinkage properties, as well as natural and machine-caused defects of hardwoods and softwoods. Student will discuss how to manipulate wood to create shapes and control problems, and how to start a project with thought to wood types, timelines, pricing, ordering, and problems to avoid and be aware of. Laminating, cutting, and planning with relation to wood grain will also be discussed. Students are required to provide their own tools

III. Catalog Course Description

IV. Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- The Course objective is to have all students pass the written and performance tests. This will be assessed through tests whether passed or not.
- How their performance on machinery in their production of their individual projects and group projects alike turned out
- Each student will demonstrate their knowledge by written and sight of different kinds of wood.
- Teamwork will be assessed not only how good team project turned out but how they all worked together as a team to complete task.
- In this class the team will be by oral speech and presentation using board or projection unit in class setting.
- Evaluation sheets filled out by each student on Instructor, class and themselves will help to see how we all did and how we can improve.
- GPA can be assessed as individual and group.
