III. Catalog Course Description
Course is a continued study of shop safety of hand and power equipment common to cabinetmaking and woodworking. There will be demonstrations in the proper and safe use of advanced machinery in the workshop. Students will examine workplace safety issues while completing individual tasks in the group atmosphere of a working shop.
IV. Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Successful students in this course will be able to safely operate all hand and power tools exemplified in this program
- Successful students will be able to demonstrate and explain the proper techniques for maintaining and properly using all hand and power tools.
- Students will also be able to describe and demonstrate the proper use of personal protective equipment, the proper handling and storage of hazardous materials, and the proper uses for fire extinguishers
- Students will be required to pass a final comprehensive exam, including a task demonstration.
- Student success will be measured in each of the following areas: Machinery check off lists, equipment demonstration exams, completion of all assigned tasks and homework, and a final evaluation.
V. Topical Outline (Course Content)
Continued study of Shop safety on equipment, both hand and power. This includes safety of self, equipment, others, projects, area, fire and electrical. This is a continuance of 100a. This will also consist of advanced machinery uses on all of the equipment in the lab and personal tools. Students will be tested in the area both written and performance based for passage of this coarse. Students will be required to make demonstration cuts, and small projects using these tools to begin their mastery of the machinery. This will show the instructor if they need more direction in their aptitude of each of the pieces of equipment. The courses main focus will be on maintaining a safe environment, safe employees, and safety for equipment being used. Begin mastery of machinery uses on project task sheet assigned to them. This will produce a student/employee that will produce as well as be safety conscious at all times.
