III. Catalog Course Description
This course number is designed to permit the offering of special topics appropriate to a program within a department. Such offerings fill the need of a workshop/seminar (199A), pilot course (199B), or professional development (199C) course. Regular or frequently recurring topics are not offered under this title. IV. Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Students will demonstrate appropriate safety practices
- Students will complete a pre/post resting heart rate test
- Knowledge of cardio dance along with modifications that will help lead them to a healthier physical lifestyle
- Students will improve and/or maintain their level of cardiovascular fitness throughout the semester
- Students will be able to demonstrate mastery of the basic, fundamental skills of SCUBA by completing the PADI Open Water Diver exam in the pool
- Students will be able to demonstrate understanding of SCUBA diving theory by passing (80% or better) quizzes and a final exam (7 % or better) on the following subjects: diving physics and physiology, equipment, dive planning, emergency procedures, aquatic life and environment
- Students will be more knowledgeable in how to create a balanced life
- Students will know and understand how to do postures that gently increase flexibility and range of motion, reduce pain, as well as heal, calm and rebalance the mind and body
- Students will know and understand of basic anatomy as it relates to restorative yoga postures
- Students will know how and understand how to use their breath to relax their body, calm their mind, manage stress and handle anxiety
- Students will know how to be more compassionate to themselves and others
- Students will know how to be still in their body and min
- Students will understand and know how to practice basic meditation
- Students will understand the importance of being more compassionate to themselves and others
- Students will understand the role of breathing, how to use it, and how it relates to the nervous system
- Students will understand the role of creating community within the class by building relationships that goes beyond a workout by using motivational thoughts and positive music
- Students will understand the value of physical wellness and how it impacts their personal lives
- Students will understand why we try to be still but also wholly present
