PHI-318 Artificial Intelligence
A study of artificial intelligence from a philosophical perspective. Our central concern is the ethics of artificial intelligence. This involves learning various ethical theories. We also address related issues in metaphysics and epistemology, such as: What is an artificial intelligence? What is a person? How could we know that an AI is conscious? What is a virtual world? The course has an applied component. Sample topics might include: Who is to blame in accidents involving self-driving cars? How should we approach an AI singularity? What should we do about harmful algorithms?
