DENH 122 Dental Head And Neck Anatomy
This course provides a detailed study of structures of the human head and neck with special emphasis on the nerve and vascular supply, muscles of mastication, bones of the skull, and the oral cavity. This course gives an overview of the anatomical considerations for local Anesthesia. Students will enhance their knowledge of the spread of dental infections and preventative measures for patient education.

III. Catalog Course Description
This course provides a detailed study of structures of the human head and neck with special emphasis on the nerve and vascular supply, muscles of mastication, bones of the skull, and the oral cavity. This course gives an overview of the anatomical considerations for local Anesthesia. Students will enhance their knowledge of the spread of dental infections and preventative measures for patient education.

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the muscular components of the head and neck, so as to communicate clearly and unambiguously with peers and professionals in the clinical setting and to be prepared to learn how to avoid unintended targets in the performance dental anesthesia.
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the vasculature and glands of the head and neck, so as to communicate clearly and unambiguously with peers and professionals in the clinical setting and to be prepared to learn how to avoid unintended targets in the performance of dental anesthesia.
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the nervous system of the head and neck, so as to communicate clearly and unambiguously with peers and professionals in the clinical setting, to be prepared to learn the clinical applications of nerve blocks and to be prepared to learn how to avoid unintended targets in the performance of dental anesthesia.
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the lymphatics, fasciae and potential for the spread of infection in the head and neck, so as to communicate clearly and unambiguously with peers and professionals in the clinical setting and to be prepared to learn how the spread of dental infection may be prevented and treated.
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of this surface anatomy of the head and neck, with special emphasis on the use of appropriate directional and anatomical terminology, so as to communicate clearly and unambiguously with peers and professionals in the clinical setting
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the skeletal components of the head and neck, including the temporomandibular joint and hyoid bone, so as to communicate clearly and unambiguously with peers and professionals in the clinical setting and to be prepared to learn the clinical applications of dental radiography (excluding the teeth per se).
