III. Catalog Course Description

Theory and application of shop safety, tool and equipment usage, precision measuring, OSHA 10 hr. industry course, and industrial truck/Forklift training.

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • perform a quality job hazard analysis
  • demonstrate the key attributes to contribute to an active safety culture
  • utilize proper ventilation procedures for working within the lab/shop area
  • identify marked safety areas
  • identify the location and the types of fire extinguishers and other fire safety equipment
  • identify the location and use of eye wash stations
  • identify the location of the posted evacuation routes
  • comply with the required use of safety glasses, ear protections, gloves, and shoes during lab/shop activities (i.e. personal protection equipment PPE)
  • identify and wear appropriate clothing for lab/shop activities
  • secure hair and jewelry for lab/shop activities
  • locate and interpret safety data sheets (SDS)
  • perform housekeeping duties in the lab/shop
  • demonstrate capability to follow verbal and written instruction to complete work assignments
  • successfully complete SP2
  • successfully complete Idaho Diesel Technology Technical Skill Assessment
  • identifying appropriate tools and their usage in diesel service applications
  • identifying standard and metric designation
  • demonstrating safe handling and use of hand and power tools
  • utilizing safe procedures for handling tools and equipment
  • identifying and use proper placement of floor jacks and jack stands
  • identifying situational tool restrictions
  • identifying and use proper lifting procedures and proper use of support equipment (e.g. lifts, hoists, rigging, etc.)
  • demonstrating proper inspection, cleaning, storage, and maintenance of tools and equipment
  • demonstrating proper use of precision measuring tools (i.e. micrometer, dial-indicator, and dial-caliper)
