DIET 109 Analysis of Hydraulics

Students will be taught the fundamentals of hydraulic theory and operation. This will include fluid analysis, use of schematics, and rebuilding hydraulic components. The students will disassemble, rebuild and adjust hydraulic cylinders, valves, and pumps. Electronic hydraulic control systems and computer control hydraulic systems will also be covered in this class. The students are taught the use of special testing equipment, the use of tools, and safe shop practices. Corequisite: DIET 111. Prerequisite: Instructor Permision.

III. Catalog Course Description

Students will be taught the fundamentals of hydraulic theory and operation. This will include fluid analysis, use of schematics, and rebuilding hydraulic components. The students will disassemble, rebuild and adjust hydraulic cylinders, valves, and pumps. Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • disassemble, rebuild, adjust hydraulic cylinders, valves, hydraulic clutches, linkages, name all the parts correctly and how they work in the systems
  • differentiate between the electronic hydraulic control systems, computer control, open and closed center systems
  • properly identify different hydraulic pumps and remove and replace pumps on equipment
  • properly handle and identify hydraulic fittings and hoses
  • properly diagnose hydraulic system failures
  • identify proper hydraulic fluids for various hydraulic systems
  • use special testing equipment while demonstrating safe shop procedures
  • demonstrate use of tools, while practicing shop safety procedures and the use of service manual when working on hydraulic parts
