COM-411 Immersive Journalism

In this course, students will engage in a sustained, semester-long project of nonfiction composition for a broad, public audience. By the end of the semester, students are responsible for presenting their work in a complex, multi-modal communicative form, including photography, graphics, texts, as well as (sometimes) audio and video. Ultimately, this course asks students to develop a topic of personal relevance to them, which they develop for the edification of various public audiences. Over the course of the semester, students will be accountable for self and peer editing and revision of their work in a collaborative fashion. Ultimately, students will create an original work—including research, interviews, news coverage, editing, as well as designing—for publication.
