Sport Administration Graduate Certificate

Overview

The College of Idaho’s Sport Administration Graduate Certificate is a post-baccalaureate certificate program designed to elevate students’ careers in the world of athletics and recreation. Students’ transformative experience through this certificate program enriches their management, marketing, leadership and sports law and ethics skills. Successful completion of the program will provide a boost to a student’s professional portfolio within the dynamic sports industry or allow the student to seamlessly transition into pursuing a master’s degree in sport administration or management.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the College’s Sport Administration Graduate Certificate, students will be able to:

  1. Apply a diverse set of essential principles and skills, including skills in business, finance, and marketing that would be necessary in sport administration;
  2. Utilize critical thinking skills in analyzing sport management issues in managerial planning and decision making;
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of ethics as they apply to sport; and
  4. Develop professional skills through classroom learning and experiential learning in internships with added applied responsibilities.

Admission

Admission Requirements

The Sport Administration Graduate Certificate program is designed to be a postgraduate program for students who have already secured a bachelor’s degree and are seeking careers in the growing business of sport and athletic management and administration. Persons eligible to matriculate in this program must complete the online Admission Application, which includes the requirement to upload the following:

  1. Transcript(s) showing completion of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university;

  2. A personal statement/essay expressing interest in the Sport Administration Graduate Certificate program and articulating how this certificate will enhance the applicant’s personal and professional growth; and

  3. A letter of endorsement/recommendation, which may be from an athletic, academic, personal or professional source.

Application Deadlines

Applications for the 2024-2025 academic year must be submitted by July 1, 2024.

Selection of Applicants

Applicants for the next start date are reviewed on an ongoing basis by the Sport Certificate Admission Committee, which includes the chair of the undergraduate Business and Accounting Department (or their designee). The committee reserves the right to accept, reject, or defer an application. Applicants receiving a letter of acceptance are granted a specific time period to notify the program of their intention to enroll.

Tuition and Fees

Tuition and fees for the Sport Administration Graduate Certificate program are due in full on or before August 15. Delinquent tuition penalties accrue at 1.5 percent per month, which is 18 percent per year. For more information, see “Financial Arrangements.”

Registration and Enrollment

Upon confirmation of admission, the College will enroll the student in the courses for the Sport Administration Graduate Certificate program for the 2024-2025 academic year. To complete enrollment, the student must be registered full-time for the semester/term and must either be paid in full for the entire program or on a payment plan (see Payment Options) on or before the first day of class.

Full-time enrollment for the Sport Administration Graduate Certificate program is 7 credits per semester. NOTE: Graduate certificate courses are not eligible for federal financial aid.

Failure to make satisfactory payment arrangements by the stated deadline will result in expulsion from classes and charges calculated according to the refund rate for withdrawal (see Institutional Refund Policy).

Graduation Requirements

To earn a graduate certificate in Sport Administration at The College of Idaho, a candidate must complete all prescribed courses and pass all courses with a 2.0 GPA or better.

Grading

The Sport Administration Graduate Certificate program adheres to the College grading scale. Students who wish to file an academic appeal concerning a course grade should review the Grade Change Policy.
