Welcome from the Dean of Graduate Studies
It’s time to level up. You have worked hard and accomplished much, but you are not done. It’s not just the degree you’re after, it’s the specialized knowledge, the sharpened skills, the increased capacity—along with the name. A graduate degree, endorsement or certificate from The College of Idaho signals to the professional community that you purposefully chose a rigorous program, that you intentionally sought to be challenged, to work hard, to level up.
The College has designed graduate programs responsive to community need and student interest. Its commitment to access to healthcare, for example, is exemplified through its Master of Physician Assistant Studies program and its Doctor of Medical Science (DMSc) program, which is a rare and vital advanced degree for PAs taught by experts in their respective fields. The DMSc program is a great example of a rigorous but also flexible graduate degree at the College, allowing students to retain their current employment while simultaneously advancing their capabilities within that employment. Our Sport Administration certificate positions students to enter the profession or advance their current careers by exposing students to a wide array of skills and knowledge, coupled with “on the field” internships. Finally, the Master of Education degree and other education-related degrees and endorsements embrace the critical role education plays in our society by advancing an innovative curriculum aimed at preparing our next generation of teachers in an increasingly fluid profession.
These graduate programs do not stand alone. They were built on the foundation of long-earned values, forged and re-forged over the College’s 133-year history. For over a century, The College of Idaho has remained dedicated to the liberal arts, graduating “Yotes” who have explored issues, ideas and methods across the humanities and the arts, and the natural and social sciences. Our graduates learn to read critically, write cogently and think broadly, and they have attained great things—distinguished academic achievements, successful careers, and most importantly, productive and fulfilling lives.
This catalog is your portal to your progress. Let’s get to work. It’s time to level up.
