Program Overview

Mission:

To provide a comprehensive education in radiologic sciences that prepares entry-level radiographers. The program promotes professional standards, multi-competency, and lifelong learning.

Description:

Registered Technologists in Radiography RT(R) provide healthcare services by applying x-ray energy to assist in diagnosis and treatment. Radiographers perform imaging procedures for interpretation by a radiologist.

Students develop professional judgment and critical thinking skills while maintaining ethical standards. Graduates are eligible for national certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and appropriate state licensure.

The academic structure of the program cannot accommodate part-time or transfer students.

Outcomes:

Graduates of the program will be able to:

  1. Perform as entry-level radiographers providing quality patient care.
  2. Adapt procedures using critical thinking skills.
  3. Demonstrate professional and ethical conduct.
  4. Develop a plan for continued professional growth.

Program Requirements

Admission:

This is a Limited Access Program.

  • Standard high school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • PERT scores at the 10th-grade level in reading, language, and mathematics, unless exempt.
  • Minimum TEAS composite score of 65%.
    • TEAS scores must be earned in a single attempt.
    • Maximum of four TEAS attempts permitted per calendar year.
    • TEAS scores are valid for three years.
    • Only TEAS scores earned at Daytona State College are accepted.
  • Satisfactory FDLE/FBI background check and drug screening.
  • Attend a program information session.

Enrollment:

Continuing enrollment approval is required prior to enrollment in program-specific courses.

  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
  • Earn a grade of “C” or better in the following courses:
    • ENC1101 Introduction to Composition
    • MAC1105 College Algebra
    • BSC1085C Human Anatomy and Physiology I with Lab

Completion:

  • Earn a grade of “C” or better in all program-specific and prerequisite courses.
  • Follow the policies and procedures outlined in the Radiography Student Handbook and the Daytona State College Student Handbook.
