POEC-3090 Critical Theory

This course delves into the foundational ideas and contemporary relevance of the Frankfurt School of Critical Theory, a group of scholars who emerged in the early twentieth century and profoundly influenced social thought, philosophy, and cultural critique. Students will explore the works of key figures such as Theodor Adorno, Max Horkheimer, Herbert Marcuse, and Erich Fromm, examining their critiques of capitalism, culture, and ideology. Students will engage with primary texts and contemporary interpretations, fostering critical thinking and discussion about the implications of Critical Theory in today's socio-political landscape.
