ENGL-3225 Ghosties and Ghoulies
Contrary to the plea for deliverance given above, humans intentionally summon in their creative expressions unsettling if not downright dangerous and deadly supernatural beings. Students will explore literary haunting. They will examine the last two centuries of British literature through some of its more prominent practitioners. They will engage these texts through a variety of critical approaches, including socio-historical, feminist, and formalist. The course will embed these studies in a framework of literary history, considering how selected authors represent significant movements, genres, and concepts. Formerly a section of ENG-355.
