MV4460 Management of Modeling and Simulation Development

The purpose of this course is to prepare MOVES students to manage large-scale modeling and simulation projects. The course traces the development lifecycle of modeling and simulation systems, including but not limited to project management, measurement, lifecycle models, requirements, implementation, testing, verification, and deployment of large-scale systems typical of DoD acquisition. Prerequisites: None.

Course Learning Outcomes

  • Define modeling and simulation as a discipline, identify its component parts, and describe relationships between modeling and simulation and associated fields of study.
  • Identify best practices in how government should cooperate with industry to meet objectives, in view of how the computing and tech industry operates as compared to conventional industries and how this impacts strategic and operational thinking within M&S.
  • Identify potential disruptive technologies to our industry, predict changes in business models that could result because of the disruption, and plan an execution strategy to leverage disruption to the benefit of your organization.
  • Identify the primary tools and technologies used by M&S professionals and how they work together to solve complex problems.
  • Evaluate burgeoning technologies that might impact M&S in the future and analyze how they might change how the M&S industry operates.
