Course Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate an understanding of fundamental principles of statics, including forces, moments, and equilibrium equations, and apply them to analyze structures and objects in static equilibrium.
  • Apply methods of analysis for statically indeterminate objects and trusses, including the methods of joints and sections, to solve engineering problems.
  • Calculate centroids and moments of inertia for composite objects and analyze their mechanical properties.
  • Analyze rectilinear and plane curvilinear motion of particles, including absolute and relative motion, using principles of dynamics.
  • Apply concepts of work and energy to analyze mechanical systems and solve engineering problems.
  • Understand and apply the principles of virtual work to analyze and solve problems involving systems in static equilibrium.
  • Analyze impulse and momentum in engineering systems, including systems of particles and rigid bodies.
  • Apply principles of impact to analyze collisions and interactions between objects in motion.
  • Understand and analyze the motion of systems of particles and rigid bodies, including translation and rotation, using principles of dynamics.
  • Analyze plane motion and fixed-axis rotation of rigid bodies, including the application of moving frames and kinematic relationships.
