English, B.A.: Teacher Certification Option, K-12

The following program meets State standards for teacher certification in English K-12. Students choosing this option must apply to both the English Department and the Department of Middle and Secondary Education. For all transfers and new admissions to the University starting September 1, 2012, a G.P.A. of 3.00 is required for admission to the Program.

EMSE*4711 and EMSE*4811: Requires submission of application to the Teaching Performance Center. Clinical I and II must be done back to back and in consecutive semesters.

EMSE*4811 Clinical II Prerequisite: Passing score on the Praxis II: A passing score on the appropriate Praxis II must be submitted to the Teaching Performance Center by the required deadline. No student may enter Clinical II unless the passing score is submitted as required. 

As an NJDOE requirement.  Clinical II must be done in the final semester prior to graduation and taken in conjunction with EDUC*4000, the Capstone Education class.  Any additional course work left to that final Clinical II semester is discouraged and may only be done with written permission of the Dean of Education.  All students are highly encouraged to complete all course requirements beyond EMSE*4811 =(Clinical II) and EDUC*4000 prior to this final Clinical II semester as even a few remaining credits will delay NJDOE's issue date of the Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing.
