Admission Requirements:

  • 65 hours of leadership experience (link to form)

  • Completion of EXSC 2800 Intro to Exercise Science with a B- or better

  • Physical examination with blood work (link to form)

  • Achieved acceptable levels of proficiency in ENG 1030 AND COMM 1402 with a C or Better

  • Achieved an acceptable level of proficiency In MATH 1030 with a C or Better

This program offers a rolling admission process. Students can apply for declared status at any time.

Graduation requirements:
2.5 GPA in the option includes all required Major Courses, Professional Education Courses, and Capstone course.

Post-Baccalaureate Requirements:

  • Maintenance of 2.5 Kean GPA in academic major, professional education, and Capstone courses

  • Demonstrate Healthful Levels of Fitness (link to fitness assessment form)

  • Successful completion of EXSC 3612 with a C or better

  • Proof of NCCA-approved certification

  • Successful Completion of EXSC 3692 Must Pass

Fieldwork requirements:
All students must be certified by a National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA)-approved organization in Personal Training or Strength & Conditioning prior to Senior fieldwork placement. The B.S. PE: Exercise Science program offers the National Council on Strength & Fitness (NCSF) Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Strength Coach courses as part of the undergraduate major coursework.

Program Description:
Exercise science is a field of study committed to understanding the acute and chronic physiological responses to sport, exercise, and physical activity. Exercise science professionals work as an integral part of a wellness team in corporate, clinical, community, and commercial fitness and wellness centers evaluating health behaviors and risk factors, conducting fitness assessments, writing appropriate exercise prescriptions, and motivating individuals to modify negative health habits and maintain positive lifestyle behaviors (CAAHEP.org). Careers include fitness instructor, strength and conditioning coach, clinical exercise specialists, exercise physiologist, wellness coordinator, and many others. Kean University is a registered Exercise is Medicine® On Campus organization. “Exercise is Medicine® on Campus calls upon universities and colleges to become engaged in the promotion of physical activity as a vital sign of health.
