III. Catalog Course Description
This course introduces basic printmaking processes, techniques, and concepts used in making an edition of art prints. Students will be introduced to a variety of printmaking processes depending on the semester, including Relief, Intaglio, Silkscreen (serigraph), Collagraph, Monotype and Lithograph.
IV. Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Understand the necessary skills and basic vocabulary through lectures, demonstrations, assignments, and critiques
- Develop safe studio practices regarding the handling of tools, chemicals, and machinery within a communal studio space
- Describe a variety of technical skills and the inherent characteristics of various print processes
- Address formal and conceptual issues with the introduction of historical and contemporary artists and examples related to printmaking
- Construct images in layers with an awareness of the physicality of printmaking, work in multiples, creating an edition of prints and learning how to properly label a print
- Enter the workforce in commercial print design.
