This course provides fundamental information about reproduction and breeding of domestic animals. Topics include functional anatomy, basic physiology, and endocrinology relating to reproduction.

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Identify relevant anatomical structures of male and female reproductive anatomy
  • List relevant hormones and describe how they function in normal reproductive physiology
  • Evaluate methods of reproductive cycle manipulation in the basic livestock species and make recommendations based upon local factors
  • Identify anatomical structures related to lactation and describe normal lactational physiology
  • Read, comprehend, and discuss current, peer-reviewed scientific literature
  • Write a thorough review of scientific literature, summarizing the key concepts
