HIST-2570 Sounds of Lat Amer: Samba, Cumbia, Salsa
(SELF & SOCIETY, ENGAGING DIFFERENCE) This course explores the diverse musical landscapes of Latin America, examining how music reflects and shapes cultural identities, political movements, and social dynamics across the region. From the syncopated rhythms of samba in Brazil to the soul-stirring boleros of Mexico and the infectious beats of reggaetón in Puerto Rico, students will engage with genres such as salsa, cumbia, tango, bachata, Andean folk, and contemporary fusion styles.
