SCI105 Laboratory Methods
This course covers basic concepts and techniques necessary to work effectively as a laboratory technician. Topics learned will include atomic structure, graphing, concentrations, dilutions, solution preparation, intermolecular interactions, acid/base chemistry; and an introduction to proteins, nucleic acids, and cells. In the laboratory, the calculations learned in the lecture component will be applied as the students learn techniques including: aseptic technique, pipetting, preparation and use of a standard curve, preparing solutions, UV-vis spectrometry, basic microbiology, use of a compound microscope, enzyme assays, DNA prep, and how to following procedures, keep records, and present data.
