Denial of Admission

Mayland Community College retains the right to refuse admission to applicants to protect the safety of the applicant or other individuals pursuant to the State Board of Community Colleges Code ID SBCCC 400.2. When making a safety determination, the College may refuse admission based on articulable, imminent, and significant threat to the applicant or other individuals. In making the determination, the College will (a) document the facts supporting the rationale for denying admission, (b) designate the time period within which the refusal to admit shall be applicable provide supporting rationale for the designated time period, and (c) determine the conditions upon which the applicant that is refused would be eligible to be admitted. The denied student retains all rights to appeal the decision through the Student Grievance Procedure.

In addition, pursuant to the State Board of Community College Code ID SBCCC 400.2(g), Mayland Community College reserves the right to refuse admission to any applicant who is not a resident of North Carolina who seeks enrollment in any distance education course if the applicant resides in a state where the college is not authorized to provide distance education. Applications for admission from students who live in states that have not granted MCC authorization will be flagged before admission is determined and a member of MCC’s Student services staff will ascertain enrollment intentions.
