III. Catalog Course Description
This course includes instruction and practice in the use of fractions, decimals, measuring tape, problem solving, basic geometric shapes, percentages, and basic trigonometry. It includes figuring board footage, square footage, etc. It also includes use of and figuring on a framing square, combination square, scale, etc., and how to lay out those combinations on projects. Corequisite: CABW 100A and 100B.
IV. Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- The Course objective is to have all students pass the written and performance tests. This will be assessed through tests whether passed or not.
- How their Performance on quizzess written and parts that are cut form math lists.
- Each student will demonstrate their ability to use mathematics with layouts as well as work sheets
- Each student will demonstrate their design difference from other styles of like project in oral demonstration reports to the class, to be assessed.
- Teamwork will be assessed not only how good team project turned out but how they all worked together as a team to complete task.
- Skill of individual advancement will be assessed by completed projects difficulty and quality, correctness to plan etc.
- Evaluation sheets filled out by each student on Instructor, class and themselves will help to see how we all did and how we can improve.
V. Topical Outline (Course Content)
An introduction and practice of the basics of applied math in woodworking. Students will be shown how and practice the use of fractions, decimals, problem solving, basic geometric shapes, percentages, basic trigonometry. Most will be shown in the layout of shapes and sizes besides on paper. How to use of the tape measure, as well as figure out board footage, square footage, and linear footage, etc. how to use the framing square, and well as the combination square, and scale and the tri-square. While all of this is demonstrated and practiced, we will work on material cut lists for all projects.
