Outdoor Program
The College of Idaho Outdoor Program (CIOP) is dedicated to supporting student well-being, engagement, and personal growth through meaningful outdoor experiences. We believe that time in nature—paired with challenge, community, and reflection—can be a powerful catalyst for learning and development.
CIOP offers a wide range of opportunities for students to connect with the outdoors, build new skills, and create lasting memories. Through workshops, classes, trips, and outdoor gear rentals, we make it easy for students to access the natural world and experience the benefits of outdoor adventure.
Our educational offerings include hands-on instruction in activities like fly-fishing, rock climbing, and kayaking. Our adventure trips (such as backpacking, camping, skiing, climbing, and hot springing) vary in length from single-day outings to weeklong excursions. Many trips include pre-trip instruction to help participants feel prepared and confident.
You don’t need prior experience to get involved. CIOP trips are open to everyone, and each trip is led by trained student leaders who are experienced in risk management, group facilitation, and wilderness medicine. Their role is to create a supportive and inclusive environment where every participant can have a positive and impactful experience.
Outdoor adventure should be for everyone, regardless of experience level or financial situation. At CIOP, we’re committed to making our programs accessible to all students. We will work with you to ensure you're able to participate.
