ENVS-2001 Knowing Birds

(SCIENTIFIC REASONING NO LAB, SCIENCE & SOCIETY, COMMUNITY-ENGAGED LEARNING) In this course, we study the lives, science, and cultural meanings of birds. Through field studies, migration and population databases, and scientific, historical, and anthropological literature, we examine birds locally and globally. The course culminates in an individual, research-based project. Students will practice the methods of interdisciplinary environmental studies and engage in analytical reading, formal writing, research techniques, and data analysis. Formerly ENV-201. This course may require up to 3 Friday activities in addition to regularly scheduled class time. Students are advised to enroll in only one course requiring Friday commitments.
