ANSC-4004 Anthropological Theory

This course emphasizes the historical development and present use of social and cultural theory (e.g., unilineal/multilineal evolution, historical particularism, structural/psychological functionalism, conflict theory, symbolic interactionism, cultural materialism, (post-)structuralism, critical race theory, feminist/standpoint epistemology, queer theory). Students will strengthen their abilities to critically apply diverse theoretical perspectives in social research, cultural analysis, and identity (de-)construction. Sophomore standing is required.
