SOC 7630 Labor Trafficking and Immigration Issues
Labor trafficking is often invisible; there are no cyber footprints, IP address collection, or tracking software to alert detectives to individuals tricking people into trafficking. Investigators have few clues that lead them on the trail of a labor trafficker. The multi-faceted crime of labor trafficking challenges policy makers, labor department officials, first-responders, and a broad array of service providers. This course will examine the general definition of labor trafficking, and have students review the department of labor’s policy regarding labor inspections in their respective states. Different forms of labor trafficking both global labor trafficking and labor trafficking within the United States will be discussed. The indicators and drivers of labor trafficking, and labor trafficking cases, will be examined, including the intersection of trafficking and immigration and the issues pertaining to documented labor trafficking of non-US citizens brought into this country.
