MR4234 Advanced Topics in Mid-Latitude Weather Systems

The course examines the classic conceptual models of mid-latitude weather systems and their associated dynamics. From this classic perspective, recent advances in our theoretical and observational understanding of cyclones and fronts are examined to extend our conceptual models of mid-latitude weather systems over a broad range of scales. It is expected that students have a working knowledge of the quasigeostrophic dynamics of cyclones, fronts, and jet streaks as taught in MR3234 (Trop and Strat) and MR4322 (Dynamic Met) or their equivalents.
