A student on Academic Probation who fails to achieve a 2.00 GPA for the semester or withdraws from all courses will be placed on Academic Suspension. A student on Academic Suspension is required to withdraw from Mayland Community College for at least one (1) semester. After the semester of suspension, a student will be allowed to petition for readmission. The petition must be in writing, prepared by the student, and include a justification for readmission. Readmission must be approved by the Dean of Students. Upon re-enrollment, the student will be placed on Academic Probation and subject to the restrictions and requirements of this academic standing. A second suspension will result in two (2) required semesters of withdrawal.
A student on Academic Warning, Probation, or Suspension will be notified of this academic standing by an email and/or letter from the Dean of Students. That letter will explain the steps described above.
A student on Academic Warning, Probation, or Suspension is not considered to be in good academic standing with the College. A 2.0 cumulative GPA is required for good academic standing.
A student who wishes to dispute an Academic Suspension must, within ten (10) working days of the academic decision being made, file an appeal, in writing, to the Dean of Students.
