PAS 6380 SUPERVISED CLINICAL PRACTICE EXPERIENCE: GERIATRICS/LTC

This 4-week supervised clinical practice experience provides the student with practical experience in the medical care of geriatric patients and patients needing long-term care. Under the supervision of a clinical preceptor, the student will apply knowledge gained in the didactic phase to actual care of patients as a member of the interdisciplinary health care team. The emphasis of this experience will be on the coordination and collaboration of medical care in the outpatient and/or long-term facility settings. Students will become familiar with the diagnosis, treatment and management of chronic illness in the geriatric patient and the psychological, behavioral, cultural and socioeconomic and coordination of care in the geriatric population. Students will participate in the medical care of the patients and will be evaluated on the knowledge, skills and behaviors needed to transition to clinical PA practice.
