PAS 6300 SUPERVISED CLINICAL PRACTICE EXPERIENCE: INTERNAL MEDICINE

This 8-week supervised clinical practice experience provides the student with practical experience in the medical care of adult and geriatric patients. Under the supervision of a clinical preceptor, the student will apply knowledge gained in the didactic phase to actual care of patients as a member of the interdisciplinary health care team. The emphasis of this experience will be on the coordination and collaboration of medical care in the inpatient and/or outpatient settings. Students will become familiar with the diagnosis, treatment and management of the adult medicine patient while taking into consideration the additional concerns of the geriatric patient.
Students will participate in the medical care of the patients and will be evaluated on the knowledge, skills and behaviors expected of a PA student member of the healthcare team in internal medicine. Students will be required to prepare and give a geriatric case management presentation highlighting the psychological, behavioral, cultural and socioeconomic and other factors germane to that population.
