The following program meets State standards for dual teacher certification in English, P-12. Students choosing this option must apply to both the English Department and the Special Education & Literacy Department. For all transfers and new admissions to the University starting September 1, 2012, a G.P.A. of 3.00 is required for admission to the Program.

Senior Level: Second Semester
Note: EMSE 4811 and SPED 4200 must be taken concurrently.
EMSE 4811 requires submission of application to the Teaching Performance Center. Passing score on the Praxis II: A passing scores on the appropriate Praxis II score must be submitted to the Teaching Performance Center by the TPC's required deadline. No student may enter Clinical II unless the passing score is submitted as required edTPA - This Performance Assessment is required and is completed during Clinical II. Beginning in September 2019, all students must earn the state's qualifying score.
As an NJDOE requirement, Clinical II must be done in the final semester prior to graduation and taken in conjunction with SPED 4200, the capstone education class. Any additional course work left to that final Clinical II semester is discouraged and may only be done with the written permission of the Dean of Education. All students are highly encouraged to complete all course requirements beyond EMSE 4811 (Clinical II) and SPED 4200 prior to this final Clinical II semester, as even a few remaining credits will delay NJDOE's issue date of the Certificate of Eligibility and Advanced Standing.
Free Electives 1-2 (Optional)
No English courses may be used as free electives except for ENG 1996 Optional Research and ENG 3291 or ENG 3292 Optional Internship courses.
ENG 1996 Optional Research: Freshman may partner with faculty to earn on credit as a free elective, which may be taken up to two times.
ENG 3291 or ENG 3292 Optional Internships (1-2 credits) for a maximum of two credits, which may fulfill free elective requirements. Prerequisite are ENG 3001 or ENG 3029; 75 credits.
