Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Follow the basic rules of safety for a general chemistry laboratory
- Safely handle dangerous chemicals in a laboratory setting while under instructor supervision
- Understand how the scientific method allows for the successful evaluation of an experiment
- Safely and correctly use basic laboratory equipment including glassware, hot plates, burners, and other similar items
- Follow a set of directions and achieve a desired outcome in the laboratory
- Relate the results from an experiment to the concepts taught in the classroom portion of the class
- Evaluate results and reach valid scientific conclusions
- Gain confidence in their own abilities to deal with new and potentially dangerous situations
