A study of identification, economic importance, and management of important field crops.
IV. Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Apply, or demonstrate, an understanding of crop and variety selection based on climactic, soil, and economic conditions.
- Describe field preparation for a given crop, incorporating principles of tillage practices and irrigation techniques.
- Apply, or demonstrate, an understanding of seeding rates, fertilizer application, cover cropping, and water-saving irrigation practices, as well as use of herbicides and pesticides to optimize profit and long-term sustainability.
- Identify methods of harvest for a given crop and make recommendations to minimize harvest losses.
- Discuss post-harvest processes and its impacts on future land planning decisions.
- Identify potential byproducts as a result of harvest for a given crop.
