III. Catalog Course Description
This course is designed to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for practical application of map, compass, and wilderness navigation concepts. Course content includes map and field bearings, declination, resection, contour line interpretation, GPS receiver use, map types, scales, and coordinate systems. Fee required.
IV. Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:
- Students will demonstrate appropriate safety practices
- Apply wellness knowledge and practice positive behavior growth using a
- Understand the concept of wellness and be able to recognize the long term
- Students will understand and apply the environmental dimension of wellness through active participation in training exercises and application in the wilderness
- Students will understand and apply the intellectual dimension of wellness through application of knowledge about analyzing topography maps, using compasses and setting correct declination, taking bearings, and utilizing multiple coordinate systems
- Students will understand and apply the financial dimension of wellness through researching various coordinate systems and their entailed costs
- Minimum of three dimensions of wellness (Emotional, Environmental, Intellectual, Physical, Social, Spiritual and Financial)-Pick at least 3
- Students will demonstrate appropriate safety practices
- Students will improve/maintain their level of cardiovascular fitness throughout the semester
