WELD 267 SMAW Qualifications and Fabrications

This course has two primary functions. The first is to provide students the opportunity to perfect their SMAW skills to successfully complete the AWS Welding Qualification tests. The second function is project construction that teaches students how to apply the SMAW skills and theory learned from previous courses in the construction of a comprehensive project. Students will utilize their blueprint skills to develop an original design of the project and SMAW skills for project completion. Students will continue training in metallurgy, metal identification, and AWS Codes and Standards.

III. Catalog Course Description

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Students will be assessed and graded based upon the successful completion of the course competencies. Attendance, attitude, and adherence to standard shop safety practices. Course competencies will be handed out the first week of class
  • Complete a comprehensive project using Square, plumb, and level
  • Have a better understanding of welding principals and theory
