III. Catalog Course Description

This introductory orientation course is designed to expose students to a variety of green industry topics including Arboriculture, Floriculture, Landscape Design and Maintenance, Turf, Nursery and Greenhouse Management.

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Identify leaf, stem, flower and seed anatomy.
  •  List taxonomy and classification of plant kingdom.
  • Describe cultural and environmental issues related to plant production, marketing and maintenance.   
  • Navigate possible horticulture career opportunities and describe their purpose.
  • Prescribe control measures for common landscape pests and diseases.
  • Calculate fertilizer application rates for variety of landscape needs.
  • Produce professional resume and cover letter and be prepared for a jobinterview.
  • Identify and name at least 40 plants by their genus and species.
