This practical approach introduces the principles, elements and techniques involved with the design process and gives students the experience needed to read, bid and consult on landscape plans for residential, commercial and public properties.

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Read and draw landscape plans by hand
  • Explain the importance of planning in the landscape industry.
  • Produce hand graphic plans using symbols and textures common to profession.
  • Identify business opportunities and management practices common to design.
  • Describe the principles and elements of good design.
  • Articulate reasons for aesthetic beauty or lack thereof using design principles/language.
