III. Catalog Course Description

The development of a business plan for use as a guide in starting and operating a successful business. Requires students to research ideas, markets, financial needs, development of pro-forma financial statements, and other data to prepare a complete and realistic business plan. The plan will be developed in a step-by-step process following a typical business plan outline.

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Business Plan Development
  • Demonstrate understanding of the principles of defining innovative business opportunities and developing new business ventures.
  • Utilize screening and feasibility tools and be able to conduct a feasibility analysis to determine the worthiness of a potential new business idea.
  • Complete a full business plan including the development of an executive summary, industry and market analysis, a marketing strategy and plan, operation plans, product/service development plan, and company structure.
  • Identify financial requirements of a new business and be able to understand and develop pro forma financial statements (e.g. income statement, balance sheet, cash flow, etc.)
  • Explain federal, state, and local regulations that affect small business ownership.
  • Compare and contrast characteristics of business to business e commerce and business consumer e commerce.
