SOC-220 Community Corrections

This course provides a detailed survey of the community corrections component of the US criminal justice system, in which persons serve all or part of their sentences in the community under a pre-trial, probation, or parole officer's supervision. The course will feature a number of guest speakers and one or more field trips. In addition to more general discussions of the nature of community corrections, we will learn about specialized gang ("Security Threat Group"), sex offender, and domestic violence caseloads, as well as diversion (DUI, drug, mental health, and veteran's court) and treatment programs.
