AM8117 Psychology, Emotion and Trauma in the Pain Equation Lecture/Lab

In this class, students develop an understanding of psychological and physical trauma, including Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and how trauma relates to pain conditions. The students identify trauma as a factor in chronic pain and thus diagnose and treat within the acupuncture scope of practice. They learn techniques for working with the diverse and significant effects of emotions on the experience of pain and healing from a Chinese medicine perspective. They understand when to refer and to whom to refer, given the scopes of practice of a variety of mental health care professionals.
