DAN141 Modern Dance
Modern dance is a story of the fundamentals of modern dance technique. Emphasis is on cultivating knowledge and application of 20th century modern dance forms spanning the early pioneers (graham, St. Denis, Shawn and Humphrey) through later methods and techniques of Cunningham and Horton. Connections to music, theater and art and objective dance criticism are included. Students participate in a dance performance. The general principles of dance technique requires proper alignment, center point of balance, opposition balance, transfer of weight, specific rhythm patterns, turns and turning techniques. See Dance Coordinator if you have physical limitations that may prevent you from completing these activities.
