Academic Advisement
The University views academic advisement as a critical aspect of the academic experience. Our Center for Advising, Persistence and Success (CAPS) offers a 12-hour advising center. The center is comprised of full-time professional advisors and staff. The center serves all first-year students and sophomores and students in their junior and senior years. Juniors and seniors may receive academic advising from their major department as well as from academic advisors in CAPS. Students in the Educational Opportunity Fund (EEO), PASSPORT, SUPERA: A Spanish Speaking Program and Veteran Student Services will be advised by their respective programs. These special populations will work with their program until graduation however, they must still meet with their faculty advisors in their junior and senior years.
All undergraduate students are required to meet with their advisor at least once per semester prior to registering for the next semester. Students are strongly encouraged to meet a second time to discuss their continued semester progress and any necessary changes in their pending schedule.
For their initial advisement, new transfer, second baccalaureate degree and readmitted students contact the CAPS center at (908) 737-3463.
For their initial advisement at Kean Ocean new transfer, second baccalaureate and readmit students should contact the Kean Ocean Administrative Office, Gateway 103, 732-255-0356 for assistance in scheduling their initial registration appointment.
Undecided/Undeclared Majors - Students who are neither officially intended nor declared with an academic major are considered undecided and will continue to receive specialized advisement through the CAPS until they select an appropriate major of study. Student must choose and complete a specific major program of study to be eligible to graduate from Kean.
