STME 5961 RESEARCH METHODS IN GENETIC COUNSELING
This is the first course in a 2-course sequence in which the concepts and methodologies of scientific research as related to genetic counseling are discussed. Topics of this course include sourcing and critical review of existing research, development of evidence-based practice, actions essential for conducting research legally and ethically including completion of the training modules on research involving human subjects sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), quantitative and qualitative research methods, applied statistics, and analysis and interpretation of data. Students will gain proficiency in Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software. Emphasis will be placed on becoming an educated consumer of research.
