BIO 2305 FUNDAMENTALS OF MICROBIOLOGY
This course provides learning opportunities in the basic principles of medical microbiology and infectious disease. It covers mechanisms of infectious disease transmission, principles of aseptic practice, and the role of the human body's normal micro flora. The biology of bacterial, viral, fungal, and parasitic pathogens and the diseases they cause are covered. Relevant clinical examples are provided. The course provides the conceptual basis for understanding pathogenic microorganisms and the mechanisms by which they cause disease in the human body. It also provides opportunities to develop informatics and diagnotstic skills, including the use and interpretation of laboratory tests in the diagnosis of infectious diseases. In a typical undergraduate setting, this course would fulfill requirements for students applying to professional health science programs such as medical school, nursing, physician assistant, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and doctorate of physical therapy (The course is not a General Education Lab course). This course is not intended for Biology majors. This course is not equivalent to BIO 3305. (3 hours lecture and 3 hours laboratory) Prerequisite: BIO 1000
