ACCT 4270 INTERNATIONAL ACCOUNTING

This course covers the conceptual and contextual foundations of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and contrasts them with US generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The course examines issues such as the transition to and harmonization of international standards, and political lobbying in favor of and against transition and harmonization. The course also examines accounting problems that multinational companies encounter, including consolidation of international subsidiaries, foreign currency translation, and international segment reporting. The course also touches on more specialized international topics, such as the international aspects of financial statements analysis, auditing, taxes, and managerial accounting.
