An in-depth study and application of construction of the types and kinds of doors. Students will learn door designing and styling. They will learn the different kinds of hinges and installation procedures. Door construction and joinery will be demonstrated in test and sample projects. This will touch on house door construction also.

III. Catalog Course Description

An in-depth study and application of construction of the types and kinds of doors. Students will learn door designing and styling. They will learn the different kinds of hinges and installation procedures. Door construction and joinery will be demonstrated in test and sample projects. This will touch on house door construction also.

IV. Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • The course objective is to have all students pass the written and performance tests. Have all students complete all door task sheets.
  • Performance of use of machinery and hand tools to an outcome whether good or not so good will be the outcome. If a student does not complete a task with at least an 80% they will make a new one.
  • Objective is to learn quality of door making, sanding, and assembly of.
  • In this block we assess each given project on a one on one basis with each task completed.
  • Performance in this block is important for quality of woodworking cabinetry; we all see the doors, nothing to hide.
  • Evaluation sheets of the class will be given at the end of the class on the class, instructor, and the student. Then we can assess the class and see if and what kind of changes need to be made.

V. Topical Outline (Course Content)

In depth study and application of layout and design and construction of various types and kinds of cabinet doors. Students will learn door design and styling. They will also learn how to make cut lists of all kinds of doors. The course also includes installation of different kinds of hinges and hardware. Students will be instructed how to machine all parts of doors and assembly of. They will be instructed on preparation for finishing, such as pre-sanding etc. Students will build up to 10 different kinds of doors, in various woods, and various edge treatments.
