Incoming Transient Students
An Incoming transient student is a student who is degree seeking at another institution (home institution) but who has requested to come to DSC to enroll in a needed course(s) that has been officially approved by their home institution. Upon completion of the course the student will be required to order an official transcript to be sent to their home institution showing completion of approved course to transfer back to use for their degree requirements. Many students use this option because their "home" college or university does not offer the course, at the time the student is in need to complete.
Policy
Incoming Transient students whose home institution is a Florida public school will be required to use Florida Shines transient application form. http://floridashines.org/ . Florida Shines applicants can track their approval progress by logging into their Florida Shines account.
If the student is from a Florida private college/university, or from any college outside the state of Florida, they will need to apply using the DSC online application for admission. They will be required to have a paper copy of transient letter or form, completed by their home institution for approved course for registration and submit to the registration office.
Incoming Transient students can register themselves after admissions processing has been completed. Incoming transients are only permitted to enroll in classes that have been approved by their home institution for indicated term/year. If a transient student is enrolled in a course other than the approved course by their home institution, they will be dropped from the course and sent communication of the schedule adjustment. This is because the transient approval from the home institution takes place of the approved course requisites only. It is the responsibility of the incoming transient student to place an order for official transcript to be sent to their home institution after the course has completed.
Things to remember:
• Fully approved Florida Shines applications are imaged within 24 hours. Other transient forms are imaged upon receipt. The Q&A does not maintain a file of transient forms; all are in Document Imaging.
• As noted on transient form approval statement, “…classes approved pending availability.” Approval does not guarantee a seat.
• Transient students can register themselves.
• If a student is having an issue with registering themselves, we will need to contact academic affairs to ensure that the transient plan codes are attached to the course to waive any pre/co requisites.
• Courses within a limited access program will require additional approval from chair of appropriate academic department.
• Incoming Transient students are not permitted to enroll in EMT courses.
• If you put student on wait list, add permissions for requisites, for the classes the student wants.
• Students trying to register for last seat in a class, but do not have approved transient status, have the option of changing admission status to non-degree seeking. They will have to provide unofficial transcripts to prove eligibility for course(s). Must also prove Florida residency for in-state tuition rate. Non-degree students are not eligible for financial aid.
• *Financial aid and Bright Futures Scholarships are processed through the home institution if indicated through Florida Shines. All other applicants must submit a Consortium Agreement from their home institution and sent to the DSC Financial Aid office. Any questions about their financial aid award must be directed to their home institution.
